Description

The latest entry in my "Album Crossover Series." The honorees of this submission are Miles "Tails" Prower of the Sonic the Hedgehog series and Nirvana's In Utero.

Nirvana is, indisputably, my all-time favorite band; I hold only a very select few bands and musicians in a similarly high regard. I have been attempting to incorporate a Nirvana record in to the "Album Crossover Series" for a good while, now, but I was continually dissatisfied with the results. I am quite pleased that this work turned out as well as it did; following such a lengthy and rapid sequence of failures, I am quite elated that I was finally able to produce a more proper tribute.

This was partially inspired by my work on Sonic Revised. In issues 177 and 178 of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of comics, Sonic's and Tails's friendship is briefly severed due to Sonic's relationship with Fiona Fox (which ends in issue 172; I cite this instance as proof that Tails represses his memories), with whom Tails had been smitten for years. Despite his claims to the contrary, Tails is very much conquered by his infatuation with her, despite the following pieces of evidence which indicate that he should not be so inclined:

a) She possesses no substantial interest in him (and has conveyed this sentiment directly to him);

b) She once slapped him directly across the face, a deed motivated entirely by malice, and;

c) Sonic tells him that Fiona is a bitch (though he does not use that term specifically) and that he can do far better than her.

Regardless of this incontrovertible evidence, however, Tails decides that he is still in love with Fiona and attacks Sonic as a measure of retaliation. After a brief melee, however, Sonic and Tails reconcile, and return to revolting against the tyranny of Dr. Eggman.

I couldn't help but wonder what Tails might have done had he and Sonic not come to terms; perhaps he would have recorded an album similar to In Utero? Certainly, it would not have been as remarkable or fulfilling, but I imagine it would have been an interesting chronicle of pre-adolescent vulpine angst.

It appears that I have rambled once again; I quite apologize for that.

Enjoy!
